Applications for Exemptions from a Provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984

From 2 September 2019, an individual or an organisation can apply to SACAT to be exempted from complying with a certain part of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984.

SACAT is required to give notice of applications to the general public.

Any person who wishes to make a written submission to the Tribunal in relation to the application for exemption should contact the Tribunal registry, to notify the Tribunal of their intention to make a submission.

Upon making a prior appointment with the Tribunal Registry a copy of the application can be inspected prior to hearing.

Applicant, Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement has applied to the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal for an exemption from the provisions of Section 52 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984. The exemption is sought for a period of three (3) years.

 

The Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement is an independant legal aid organisation, which assists in developement, remedy and protection of legal rights and interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in South Australia.

 

The exemption is sought to permit the Applicant to offer employment and recruit Aboriginal persons, who will understand the cultural concerns and sensitivities of their community and facilitate meaningful participation and engagement in an environment for Aboriginal persons and clients.

 

Any person who wishes to make a submission to the Tribunal in relation to the application for exemption should contact the Tribunal Registry. Written submissions should be provided to the Registry by close of business on 5 November 2021.
